multifunctional building for the luisenburg-festival

unglaub area / multifunctional building luisenburg-festival

with our design for the redevelopment of the former unglaub-area in wunsiedel, we aim to close the edge of the western city center as nuanced as possible. the small-scale urban spaces created by the arrangement of the new buildings should each connect meaningfully with the spaces between the existing buildings. in addition, we want to give the new multifunctional building for the luisenburg festival a special visibility within the city that gives reference to its importance for the city of wunsiedel. to bring the luisenburg-festival into the city center with permanent visibility, we want to create a new urban square – luisenplatz – in front of a public foyer of the multifunctional building as a busy transition to the city center. the south façade of the multifunctional building connects to luisenplatz, not only with the main entrance but also with a large information area about the luisenburg-festival, informing passersby about current events at the luisenburg or at the inner-city location.

the multifunctional building is designed as a timber-hybrid construction. from the ground floor upwards, a timber-frame construction is planned with solid timber wall elements and wood-concrete composite ceilings. the roof structure is envisioned as a timber load-bearing structure.

west of hofer straße, two spatially separated cluster structures are arranged at slightly different heights. the ground floors along hofer straße are occupied by shops, restaurants and a small community center; otherwise, the open cluster buildings house apartments. the two separated clusters with courtyards are connected by a play street. it is particularly important to us to strengthen the pedestrian and cycle path connection to the city center towards the east.

unglaub areal / multifunktionsgebäude luisenburg-festspiele

mit unserem entwurf für die neuordnung des ehemaligen unglaub-areals in wunsiedel möchten wir den rand der westlichen altstadt so differenziert wie möglich schließen. die kleinteiligen städtischen räume, die durch die anordnung der neubauten entstehen, sollen sich jeweils sinnvoll mit den zwischenräumen der bestandsbebauungen verbinden. zusätzlich möchten wir dem neuen multifunktionsgebäude für die luisenburg-festspiele eine besondere sichtbarkeit in der stadt verleihen, die ihrer bedeutung für wunsiedel gerecht wird. um die luisenburg-festspiele dauerhaft sichtbar in die innenstadt zu bringen, schaffen wir vor dem öffentlichen foyer des multifunktionsgebäudes einen neuen städtischen platz – luisenplatz – als rege frequentierte überleitung zur altstadt. mit der südfassade des multifunktionsgebäudes schließt an den luisenplatz nicht nur der haupteingang an, sondern auch eine große info-fläche über die luisenburg-festspiele, welche passantinnen und passanten auf das jeweils aktuelle geschehen auf der luisenburg oder am innerstädtischen standort hinweist.

das multifunktionsgebäude ist als holz-hybrid-konstruktion konzipiert. ab dem erdgeschoss ist eine holz-ständer konstruktion vorgesehen mit massiven holzwandelementen und holz-beton-verbund-decken. die dachkonstruktion ist als holztragwerk angedacht.

westlich der hofer straße sind zwei räumlich aufgelöste hofstrukturen leicht höhenversetzt zueinander angeordnet. die erdgeschosse entlang der hofer straße sind mit läden, gastroflächen und einem kleinen quartierstreff belegt, ansonsten sind in den offenen hofbebauungen wohnungen untergebracht. die beiden aufgelösten blöcke mit innenhöfen sind über eine spielstraße miteinander verbunden. besonders wichtig ist uns, im quartier die fuß- und radwegverbindung zur altstadt in richtung osten zu stärken.
